AFRICAN FABRIC QUILT CLASS
Marge was inspired by a piece of African fabric to make a quilt using readily available patchwork fabrics. You will explore the combination of pattern and colour in the fabrics to achieve the desired effect.
In this class you will learn cutting and piecing for bands of stripes. You will also learn some easy Seminole piecing. There will be homework between the classes. You will be well on the way to finishing a quilt top.

SAN BLAS APPLIQUE CLASS
The San Blas islands near Panama are home to a traditional technique called Mola, panels of which were incorporated into their clothing. Molas are handmade using a reverse appliqué technique. Several layers (usually two to seven) of different-coloured cloth (usually cotton) are sewn together; the design is then formed by cutting away parts of each layer. The edges of the layers are then turned under and sewn down.
In this class you will start with your initials, or other meaningful letters to create a uniquely personal panel.
There will be homework between the classes.

SMALL SCENES CLASS
For all levels. In this workshop you will learn how to transform your photos or pictures of landscapes into little fabric quilts. We will be working in sizes ranging from A3 down to about large postcard size. We will discuss colours, perspective, depth of field, methods of stitching, etc. You will also learn how to enlarge pictures without the use of a photocopier. (Even if you can’t draw!) You will choose a size to work in then create 3 or 4 tiny landscapes using the same photo but making use of a variety of fabrics. You will see how different fabrics change depth of field, perspective and mood.
We will provide pictures of the type of fabric that would be suitable with the class requirements. If you dye your own fabric you may wish to use some of those.
You will be able to sew these landscapes either by hand or by machine (machine is faster!).
There will be some homework between the classes.

SUNDRESS QUILT CLASS
For all levels. This quilt is constructed of small sundress blocks approximately 5 x 7 inches (12.5 x 18 cm). The sundresses are either plain or decorated in a variety of ways, with lace, ribbons or rickrack. The quilt may be made in a variety of sizes, whatever suits your needs. One sample has been made with Liberty Tana Lawn for a softer look or make a brighter south pacific look with batiks. Ordinary, lightweight patchwork cottons or batiks can be used as well. The important thing is to keep the prints in scale with the tiny sundresses if possible, although some big prints will lend themselves well too. This is a machine class.
